Toby Moreton – Managing Director

Toby began his career as a law costs draftsman in 1992 working for a small costing firm in Southampton. He went on to hold various senior positions in well-known leading costs firms in and around London and the South East before setting up TMC in 2005. He became an Associate of the Association of Law Costs Draftsmen (now Association of Costs Lawyers) in 2000 and a Fellow in 2002 and was one of the first Fellow Members to be granted higher rights in July 2007 and to attain the title Costs Lawyer. Toby has been closely involved in several high profile cases and has developed a particular specialism in a number of areas, including high value personal injury, clinical negligence and civil liberties matters, including actions against the police and death in custody cases. Toby acted for the Claimant in detailed assessment proceedings following the Supreme Court case of Smith and others v the MOD (the “Snatch Land Rover” case) and was costs lawyer for the Claimant in the leading inquest costs recovery case of Roach v The Home Office. He has also been involved in claims arising from the undercover policing litigation and is regularly instructed in some of the UK’s highest value clinical negligence claims.
